Spud and Hartwig, I have respect for you both, and understand frustrations when you see cars that look similar to another. I spent most of last season away because of military training and the lack of the game. I enjoy painting knowing I am not a top tier painter, but enjoy the community. The problem is part of the drama comes from specific call outs. Yes, maybe a PM wouldn't work if it happens over and over, but there are better ways to handle this than how it is happening now. The best way to handle it IMO would have been to post JHartwigs and Energy's like the way it was done for Kane last season, and let the scoring handle it. Correct me if I am wrong, but this is the closest I see to the cars being similar. How you guys have handled it caused more drama then anything else. If drama is the reason why you are not competing, maybe you need to look at yourself before casting stones.

jhartwig24 What did he do after he won the championship? I must have missed it. All I saw was he was happy he won the championship, and he should have been. You chose to drop out with one race left. That doesn't seem very champion-like to me. I'm only defending him because he doesn't go on rants about every little thing and start his own drama like you seem to do. Of course his originality score is going to be low. That's the one thing that usually bites him. But that's no reason to act like the sky is falling. The one that was essentially my Gatorade car was closer to a copy than this one and even that wasn't a huge deal to me. It was discussed and we moved on. If you think all this is laughable bull, then why do you keep watching this forum? That's what I mean by saying it looks like you're just waiting to swoop in and start something the first chance you get. I looked up to you as a painter. You set the bar extremely high. But I'm tired of the condescending attitude!

Guys, it wasn't my intention to ruin your season. Keep going and have fun. It just rubbed me the wrong way. I can't understand why he is doing this with all the talent he has and we've been there before a few times. I guess i'm done with the game and it didn't need much for me to quit.

Yep, that's me. The instigator! I hang around and every now and then look at the forums because I like seeing all the original schemes people create! I didn't know that just because I didn't participate anymore that I couldn't look in on your forums. I'm sorry!
BEST OF LUCK TO ALL THE PAINTERS DURING YOUR PBC SEASON!

I know that I am new to the pbc, but I would like to chime into this debate. Energy DID copy hartwig's car. There is no denying that, but does that honestly really matter? This forum is supposed to be a fun experience for everybody to paint cars. It is turning into a drama-fest. Can't we just leave it as a fun experience? Seriously. 2 people left the season because of this drama. This crap is annoying...

It wouldn't be a start of a PBC Season if we didn't have an argument over whether Painter Y copied Painter X's work! Woo hoo!
Anyway, so this is a productive post, I guess sunday will have lots of entries! Right? (please?)

Everyone please just get rational and shut up. Let the scoring talk for itself. Energy did a great job on the car. You can't deny that. He used a drill too that Hardwig used. Cool. Guess what? It's still a different base design. The color scheme is the same because it's the companies colors. How much can you do about that?
Just move on from it. I've had enough gossip for the night after seeing the Bengals and Steelers fight to the death. Let's all stick to painting rather than running a 2 star reality TV show on MTV.

Holidays were super busy for me and mine so I've had little time to paint. I have a car about 75% done and I'll try my best to get it done.

I have an entry, waiting to see if I get the capture card before posting the pictures I have as it shows none of the minor details.

This is something I knew was a possibility when I chose Techtronic Industries as my primary sponsor, but I didn't expect outlash of this magnitude this quickly. Before the scorecards get submitted, at least let me explain my side of the story. There appear to be two factors leading people to believe that I copied Jhartwig's car: the drill brush and overall appearance. First off, the drill. While I won't deny that his incredible use of a photorealistic brush last season made me want to create something similar, I did not copy Jhartwig's drill. In fact, I deliberately researched different Milwaukee products to insure I created a brush for a different drill entirely. I wanted something unique and feel like I succeeded in that. I've compared each of our in-game versions with their real-life counterparts in the photos below. As you can see, while they're both Milwaukee products, they don't share many similarities from the trigger up. The casing features obviously different shapes, the color of the each setting dial are polar opposites (white vs black), and the battery cases are shaped differently, just to name a few. Next comes the overall appearance of the scheme. Sponsor choice dictates color choice, plain and simple. This is the one area where my car and Jhartwig's car are truly alike. But, keep in mind that Jhartwig doesn't own the color combo of red, black, and white. It's common--heck, Vader posted a car featuring those colors just a few minutes ago. So I'll move on to something more important: the base scheme. Personally, I believe that my base scheme shares more similarities with several of the cars I created last season than Jhartwig's Drill car. Solid, contrasting polygons with minimal outlines is a style of painting that is typically identifiable as mine. I don't use outlines or shadows as prominently as Jhartwig does, and I tend to balance out my colors all over the body (rather than, say, having the front half of the car one color and the back half another). Here are just a few examples. I hope you can see the similarities between these original entries and the "copied" car I entered this week. If you disagree with all of this and still think that I outright copied Jhartwig's car, at the very least, you have to acknowledge that I made my scheme in the spirit of competition. If you see a sponsor you like one season, and think you can improve on it, pick it next season and show the other guy up. At least give me that before you penalize me on your scorecard. Let's just get past this and have some fun with the rest of the season.

This just goes to prove that your nothing but arrogant! Case closed! And I don't think you succeeded in showing me up. All you did was prove all my accusations were legit.

For the record, that quote was originally sent to me by 714 in a message, where he also said "it's why we draft sponsors," and that "that is the competitive side to painting like this." Now I'd appreciate it if you let people make their own individual judgments and stop trying to stir the pot and skew scores.

I forget if we are going to put feedback in the media centre or what, but if we aren't, I thought a feedback thread would work so we all know what we did that everyone liked and what we actually need to do to get better.
So, uh, fire away!

I am really interested in hearing everyone's feedback regarding their scoring.
My reactions to race 1...
The 16 should have been in a closer battle with the other top two cars. The main issue with everything that went on with the 16 this past week boiled down to sponsor selection. I really feel all the discussion down played the work that went into that car.
My car... I would really like to hear feedback on my car. In my opinion it is a solid entry all the way around and far more complex not only in design but difficulty to the 17. It shouldn't have come down to a tie breaker...
Everyone had really good cars this round. I really liked the use of textures on the 28 and 68. I liked the 1 car a lot even though it had a good deal of in game text.I liked how the 25 was a white car and not black, that would of made it look to much like a bass pro car.
If anyone else would like more feedback let me know...

Thanks for posting this, Dinger. Anyways, I have to agree with 714 here. My entry, had it not been for all the off-track drama, probably would have been a serious challenger for the top two finishers. But whatever. The best thing I can do is pretend that never happened and move on to Race 2. Deciding between the 6 and 17 was like splitting hairs. I eventually chose to put Thermite first and 714 second on my scorecard, and just for clarification, below is a chart of how I broke the two scores down. Thermite's car had the sharper overall appearance, but 714's base scheme was more intrinsic. 714 also beat him in regards to sponsor brushes because of Tony the Tiger, but not by much. With originality, I couldn't help but feel that Tony was something that had already been done by Philmnn back in Inside Line, whereas the Sharpie Clear View was something I hadn't seen before. Again, both schemes were outstanding, but I feel like the 17 was just a little bit better in some areas. Thermite put a whole scheme together with several gorgeous logos (heck, he made a motto brush just for the decklid), versus 714 made one fantastic brush and sort of banked on it to carry his whole scheme. Now, on to some of the other entries. I'll echo what 714 said in that everyone had great cars this round. Both the 28 and 68 did a nice job with some of the detailing in their textures. I would have enjoyed a more complex base on the former and some more sponsors on the latter, though. The 1 car was quite sharp and the color choices were perfect, but the in-game text really brought it down on my scorecard. For the 25, the main thing that struck me was the gorgeous Toyota body lol. As for your scheme, the choice of white instead of black was wise. I'd just work on the number/sponsor positioning; for instance, the door numbers are still a little too wide. The 51 looked nice but the base was a little busy in some areas--personally, I'd reduce red to just an accent color. Finally, as for the 34, I would have liked to see a little more detail. Maybe some red gradients and black trim or something like that.
