Actually this system is the same system we used for NTG'11. I mean the whole 1-5 rating for each category. Last year we had the same categories, but no formal way of ranking them. You pretty much estimated the four out and gave an overall finishing position.

I for one think that last years method of scoring was more my style. I already look at all of the categories, and look at all of the key components of the cars separately and then place them in order on my scoring chart. I think when you have to start deducting fractions from scores, you're going to end up having multiple ties on your scorecard. I scored using the points system, but had multiple ties of my card, so I simply had to pick and choose which one should be ranked above the rest. I ended up narrowing it down to only 1 tie on my scorecard, when I had 6 ties using the 1-5 point system.
I think the scoring each category 1-5 is a great way to introduce the scoring, and should be a tool to help guys score fairly, but I don't think it should be needed on each persons scorecard that gets submitted. It's just takes too much time to fill out all the scores and points IMO. And I know some people might be like, well if you don't use the point system, you're not looking good enough at the cars and scoring fairly, but that's not true. I spent over 2 hours on scoring for Race #1. I found it extremely difficult since there were so many outstanding cars entered! There were a ton of great cars, and every single one of them got my fullest attention to detail when it came to scoring.
As far as being able to stand behind my scores and be held accountable and give feedback, I am absolutely willing to give anyone feedback on their cars! Send me a PM and ask me for feedback or ask me any question and I'll give you an honest, NO B.S. answer! This goes for rookies or veteran painters alike!

I agree with Jake. While the scoring breakdown is a great and important way to go about figuring out where everyone should be placed, I don't think it's necessary to actually submit those scores. I think just the order should be submitted while being prepared to defend your scores and give feedback when asked. You almost have to go: overall 1-16, base 1-16, brushes 1-16, etc. for the breakdown to work since a lot of it involves comparing one element of one car to an element of another no matter what the category is anyway. Yes, absolutely use the breakdown to make sure your scores are as good as they can be. But I think it would make things too complicated to make it a mandatory part of submitting scores.
Regarding feedback, I liked when we went down the list of entries and gave a short critique about each one before. I would make it optional but encouraged to write a sentence or two about each scheme after all the scorecards are turned in (ie. one thing they did well and one thing they could improve, something like that).

I agree with Thermite and JHartwig when it comes to scoring. I'll admit to being one of the few that screwed up his scorecard this week. I submitted the proper information, just not in the proper order. I think it is more than fair if we just submit a finishing order, as long as you are able to explain your results if a suspicion arises.
To Thermite's second point, I absolutely agree. The painting help forum can be put to use for this. After every PBC race, we open up a feedback thread. If you want feedback just post it in the thread and state if you want it via PM, or if you're okay with it being in the thread. Any thoughts?

Just a few reminders for scoring...
Leave the cars in the qualifying order or use the spreadsheet. Please use the car numbers rather than names to eliminate any chance of scoring mistakes.
Take all categories of the paint scheme in consideration. Base, decals, overall appearance, etc.
Scoring is not based off of personal opinion. You are scoring difficulty and execution. Not what you like or what you think they should have done differently. For example...
Custom text should out weigh in game text due to the difficulty to create the custom text.
A simple two tone base with nice clean lines should out score a busy base scheme with inconsistent lines.
Just because a car is busier or has more layers does not necessarily make it a winner.
