Hey. I was going to post some schemes to my garage, but they aren't any good. Can you give me tips for painting, or techniques that I could use to make my cars better?

Time and patients when making logos, use the grid when making brushes. drawing the same grid on a print out of the logo you want to create really helps.
For base schemes I have found doing a gradient under then adding your basic shapes over adds depth.
Outlines and drop shadows also make basic shapes on a base scheme stand out

Thanks, but what are gradients? Lol color fades... go to color, R1+up on the stick, under fill type change "solid" to "grad 1" there are 8 of them. Then go down to Color and select color 1 and color 2 below that is opacity or how see thru the color is. 100% is solid, 10% is clear (more or less). that is another fun tool to play with

You can go ahead and post your schemes, even if you don't think they're very good. That way we can see what you're doing and provide feedback from there. But I echo 714's advice, those are great tips for beginners.

And also, after you make 21 schemes, why can't you edit anymore? And sometimes when I go to races in my schemes, the number is underneath the paint, even though I chose for my number to be on top. Is there a way to fix this?

I think there's a set limit on how many custom cars you can make. I haven't hit the max yet so I wouldn't know, but it sounds like you're getting close to that limit, so it may be locking you out for some reason related to that.
I've had the same problem with things showing up underneath layers of the car, more specifically with the headlights and manufacturer decals. I think it's just a glitch with the game loading the paint scheme. Try going back into the paint booth and making sure the number is on top, then re-save it again. That usually fixes it for me.
