SPONSORS:

Primary: Each painter will have one unique sponsor. This sponsor will only be used by this painter. Once a sponsor is selected no other painter or team may select this sponsor.

Secondary: Each team may have up to five sponsors to share. These sponsors may not be used by anymore than two teams.

Team: Each team may have up to four team sponsors. These sponsors can not be used as a primary or secondary sponsor. They are strictly there for use as filler sponsors on the car. There are no restrictions as far as to how many teams may sign the same sponsor. Team sponsors are the only time in game sponsors will be allowed.

TEAMS:

Teams are to be no more than two painters. After each race, each team car will be rewarded points based on how many cars are entered in that event. For example if ten cars enter the race 1st place will be worth ten points. The points earned by both cars will be added up for that teams score for that event. After each event these scores are added together for an overall season score. At the end of the regular season the team with the most points will win the team championship.

POINTS:

1st=20 points, 2nd=18 points, 3rd=16 points, 4th=14 points, 5th=12 points, 6th=10, 7th=9, 8th=8 , 9th=7, 10th=6. From 11th on back will be worth 5 points regardless of position.

One bonus point will be awarded to the poll sitter. The painter with the oldest time stamp on their post.

Points standings are based on the total number of points earned after each event up until the end of race seven. After race seven the points are reset for the series chase. Painters will be reset and placed one point apart from each other, with bonus points for wins and participation added. Once the points are reset these new standing are used for races eight, nine, and ten. After race ten the painter with the most points will be crowned champion.

REQUIRED STICKERS:

Each entry must have the the following required stickers. Not having the correct stickers may lead to an entry not receiving points for an event.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Paint schemes must be original work to the painter submitting the entry. Use of replicas (real or fantasy) of any type of racing are NOT allowed. Using other designs for inspiration is ok but paint schemes must be at least 33% different. If it is discovered that you plagiarized an entry, that entry will not be eligible to receive a score. Any issues regarding the use of replicas should be addressed in the Scoring thread located in the media center section of the forum.

Each painter will have a reserved number that they request at the start of the season. This number must be used unless given permission to change it by the PBC committee.

Each painter must use the sponsors selected during the preseason draft to have their entry eligible for scoring. Primary and Secondary sponsors may be changed under the following guidelines.

Primary sponsors must be used at least twice. Once the sponsor is used twice the painter may submit a request for a new sponsor to be added.
Secondary sponsors must be used by a team three times. Once a sponsor is used three times a request to add an additional sponsor to the teams shared sponsor list may be requested.

Grace period. Up until results are posted for race race one. Painters are allowed to request changes to their sponsor lineup. After the results for race one are posted painters must follow the guidelines set above.

THREADS AND POSTING

Each race will be "hosted" at a specific track. Check the schedule to see which tracks coincide with each race. Pictures of entries must be taken at the track that that race is be held at. Failure to do so might make your entry ineligible for scoring.

Each race will have its own thread that will open on a scheduled date and time. No posting is allowed until the set date and time. The only posts allowed in race threads are those of entries. All other posts must be made in the Media center thread.

The Media Center thread may be used as a chat style thread, as long as posts are on topic to the PBCup and follow the forum rules.

Once the season enters the chase, entries must be paint schemes that you have previously entered in any of the seven regular season races. Changes may be made to the paint schemes in response to feedback received over the course of the season or updated brushes. Entries must still resemble the original. You are also asked to post one picture of when the paint scheme was originally posted, since improvements made will be a factor in scoring.

SCORING:

You must be entered in that particular race to submit a scorecard. Each race has a deadline for when scorecards are due. Each painter will receive a bonus score of "0" that will lower their average score to encourage submitting a scorecard.

Each car is to be scored with a number value and then placed in a finishing order. For the regular season there are three categories that you will score each car. Overall Appearance, Base Scheme, Sponsor Brushes, and Originality. You will rate each car in each category 1-5, 1 being the lowest score and 5 being the highest. The scores from theses three categories are to be totaled for an overall score with 20 being a perfect score. The following fractions of a point may also be used (.25, .50, .75)

For the chase a fifth category "improvements" will be added. This will make a perfect score of 25.

Once you have given each car its score you are to place them in a finishing order from first to last with the highest scoring car first. The car numbers will appear in the order the were submitted, please leave the car#s in this order to aid in overall score keeping.

No more than two cars may tie for a position. Ties in final scoring will be broken down based on starting position.

My two cents:

- I’m fine with one unified series, it’s a daunting task to have to compete head to head with the best but to quote Ric Flair, “To be the man, you got to beat the man” so, bring on the best.

- I do have a question regarding the two car limit, how do part-time painters factor in? Is the limit two-full time teams, or two period? Best example I can think of is last year’s line up from WCR are all registered here. Energy and Thermite have already committed full-time, so if Kane wanted to compete, even part-time, would he be forced into a new team? Minor issue I’m sure but one I could see popping up once teams are selected.

- A 5 sponsor pool (with the manufacture as 6) per team should be more than enough. However I still support the idea of each painter having one sponsor exclusive to them that could not be shared by any other painter. Multiple painters can choose different brands under the same parent company, just not two brands under the same banner. Example. Driver A chooses Pepsi, Drive B is allowed to choose Mt. Dew however, Driver B could NOT choose Diet Pepsi or any other brand under the Pepsi banner. I’m willing to wipe the latter half of this if it makes things too complicated.

- A little more leniency on exchanging sponsors. Last year FCR was, AFAIK, the only team to add/drop/change sponsors so I don’t think there is a huge demand for this amendment but the ability to get new sponsors late in the season could breathe fresh air into a painter/team. My suggestion is to allow sponsors to be exchanged at any time, with a one-race sponsor penalty. For example, After Race 1 you want to drop sponsor A and pick up sponsor B. Once the announcement is made, sponsor A is gone from the team (or painter if the above suggestion is added) instantly. However, sponsor B must”sit out a race”, and could not be used until Race 3. This means the team (or painter) would be short one sponsor for Race 2. I would cap this at exchanging one sponsor at a time to prevent abuse of this rule. I would also add a small penalty for use of ineligible sponsors, something like 1 point per occurrence.

- Speaking of points, I like the set-up from last year where points were dependent on the number of entries however I am not a fan of eliminations in the chase. I know it’s how the big boys do things but I think it discourages people from entering the late races if they’ve already been eliminated or are teetering on the edge. I say once the chase comes, we reset the field to predetermined point total with bonus points for wins. I also think there should be bonus points for anyone who starts all 7 regular season races. There should be some incentive to those who enter every week. Something along the lines of 3 bonus points per win and 5 points for anyone who entered all 7 regular season events. Obviously those numbers are negotiable.

- I think we should go ahead and start forming teams and announcing sponsors. This gives people time to get back into the booth, make brushes and work on testing schemes as well as Daytona entries. Any sponsor conflicts (if any) would be solved by the finishing order of the preseason testing race.

- The 10-Race, once a month schedule (7/3 with Chase) is about perfect. My only suggestion would be leaving the race threads open longer. Open them up sometime Friday night and close them sometime Sunday night. Pick a day that following week to have scorecards in by. With more time off in-between races those don’t have to be rushed.

That’s about all I have for now. If I’m completely out of line by all means, tell me where to go… lol. IM looking forward to a great competitive year in the PBC!

I think the thing to keep in mind is that there will be a points split for the chase no matter how many painters we have, so your focus should be on that. I will think about doing a second winner for the second half of the field based on points. Kind of like how we did classes where points standings determine which class you were in. That is only if we have enough painters. It is a competition after all and I would like to avoid the T-ball mentality of everyone gets a trophy for showing up. If we get twenty painters then of course I would see a reason for two series and two winners from the start. Any less than that its just more trouble than its worth.

There is no difference between part time and full time. saying that there are only seven races that cover ten months, being part time is just going to move you down the points standings. Hopefully once I work out the schedule the races will be spaced out enough that most painters will be "full time" Secondly, yes if Thermite and Energy were a team and Kane wanted to join also WCR would be full and he would need to be on another team. Since we will not be doing team points teams are really nothing more than aesthetic for car appearance and someone to work with and bounce ideas off of.

I was talking with Spudwieser about this last night. I am ok with allowing each painter their own unique sponsor in addition to the 5 shared sponsors. Manufacture is not included as of now. We also talked about adding three in game sponsors that teams can use as associate sponsors (more or less space fillers that you would not use as a primary sponsor).

That should fill up a car nicely.

As far as exchanging sponsors... FCR was not the only team to exchange sponsors and a good amount of bonus points were earned even if sponsors were not exchanged.
Those rules were made for the Inside Line era when we were doing a full 36 race year. When it was real easy to get bored of a sponsor. It was also a way to introduce bonus points for completing a sponsor contract. With this season only being realistically seven races long (since the three race chase is reworking your best schemes from the first seven) I am not sure exchanging sponsors will be necessary. After the first few races you should have most if not all of your brushes created to be used as secondaries. While your idea would make sense if we were having a longer season I feel that it is to much to keep track of for such a short period of time.
Here is what I suggest. Sponsors can be changed for the first month (one or two races) By then everyone should have enough time to have created their brushes and would have an idea of the cars they are going to make for the season. Then it should be first come first serve and if it starts to get abused we will look at adding more stipulations to making changes.

When it comes down to points the setup from last year did not work. Jhartwig had a huge lead in the points that carried all through the Sunoco series before it was shut down due to lack of interest. He won the first race and got 12 points. I won two races back to back later in the season and with those two wins combined did not match the points he got with his first win. To avoid a painter to come out of the gate and rack up a few early wins and running off with a title early because half of the field goes away, points for a win need to be the same.

Regarding the chase... with or with out officially eliminating painters, painters will still technically be out of contention after each race. It is important to still enter if you are eliminated because you do have a chance to take points away from the others still eligible. I think going further to match what NASCAR does and realistically reset the points after each chase race would work better.
This is what adds the strategy of reusing paint schemes. Do you use your best scheme first or save it for the end. When is painter X going to enter that one scheme that was awesome, Oh the guy directly above me in points played this car. Well this car I have is better than his so I will post that one, etc. Make the wrong move and it could be the end of your chances for a title.

Last year in the Target series we did have bonus points for wins (one point per win) and with the points structure it was fair. Any more than one point and it is going to seed the chase with points gaps for the guys that were dominate through the season. If that is going to happen it defeats the purpose of a points reset. I would consider a larger bonus for the painters that enter all of the events. However that might effect our part time painters, it is something to keep in mind but with out knowing how many full time / part time guys we have its hard to say how it will effect the points.

Forming teams and securing sponsors will happen after the preseason testing event that will be in February. Trust me after doing it this way for years now its the best way to do it. It saves time editing a master list with painters changing their minds or from people only posting for the silly season part of the season reserving sponsors and never entering a race. Creating the test cars sets the order and earns you the right to even secure a sponsor. It also evens the playing field. If you want to risk your time to work now you are going to need to have a solid run in the test or risk someone else picking your sponsor. Announcing what you want now could hurt you. Someone else could think the sponsor you want is a good one and steal it from you. It is a contest after all.

The schedule is still completely up in the air. Nothing as been decided on that yet. Most likely it will be one race per month. Chase races maybe closer together. With the race opening Friday and closing Sunday. With the next week open for scoring. This should be more than enough time for everyone.

I think those are all fair compromises. Thanks for listening with an open mind. Adding in-game sponsors is helpful as it eases the burden, 3 less brushes to make OR more time to spend on the brushes you do make depending on how you look at it.

And after looking at it, you’re totally right about the points. IN my head, we had the same number of entries every race which made that sound like a good idea. I’m glad we agree about reward for anybody entering every race, this entire deal is so participation dependent so it only makes sense to reward active participation. Bouncing this around in my head how about a bonus point (or points) per start? So, the more you start, the more bonus points you end up with. This rewards more participation without completely ignoring the part-timers. I would add these in after the chase reset along with bonus points for wins. Just for example say one point per regular season start, and maybe an additional if you start all 7. Maybe even round it up to 10 bonus for anyone starting all 7.

One other issue came to mind after my first post, are we still going to allow anyone to utilize Inside Line? I’m perfectly fine with it and think it might even help participation, but as minor as this may sound, I want to ask before it becomes an issue. How should we handle the use of Gen 6 light decals on an IL scheme? Should they be judge as a part of the scheme, or looked at no differently than in game decals of ’14?

Well all of this was a little confusing... When this starts can i make a team with my 4 drivers, because i already have plans for FISH Racing, and possible painters joining... Let me know if that is allowed when it comes time to team creation please.

I am working on the finishing touches for the series outline, hopefully I will have that posted in the coming days.

As of now teams are two painters each. With this being the first season on our own forum and not knowing how large of a following we will have in the next few weeks.
Along with the fact that many have already moved on from NASCAR '14 this was the logical choice to make the team championship as fair as possible.

We have always welcomed new members joining in, hopefully they still will even if you can not all be on the same team.

Would it be too late to suggest holding an All-Star Race/Showdown? Since we have a month between each race, maybe we could hold something a week or two before Charlotte. Race and pole winners (along with the 1st and 2nd place finishers in the Showdown) could qualify for the "main event."

The All-Star was one of my favorite weeks of the Inside Line era. I'd love to see it come back--throwing in a special exhibition event every once in a while makes painting even more fun.

I might as well bring it up because I figure others will ask... Can we still use variations of our sponsors? For example, say I have Pepsi for my primary sponsor. Is it implied that I can do Wild Cherry, Diet, etc?

I also really like the rules for this year. Nice and simple. Should be a great season!

Likewise. If I pick Mountain Dew for example, could I theoretically do Mountain Dew Code Red, Voltage, etc. under "Mountain Dew" considering it's still mountain dew. It would make it much easier to come up with paint schemes and ideas.

Plus I do like this year's format, it combines the first style with the second. This way, it will be clearer as to how well a scheme is rather than just its place.

The '14 sticker is one rectangle with a second rectangle that is set with gradients so it looks like two. On the pole award it is a checkered flag graphic.

I have a few days off I will get better pictures and spreadsheets up.

In trying to make polls as competitive as possible an agreed set time is best.
